The Washington County Fair Board is looking forward to welcoming the public back to the fairgrounds this month and showing off the improvements that have been made the last couple years.
This year’s fair will feature the return of grandstand and other entertainment as last year’s fair was limited to just FFA and 4-H exhibitors. Fair Board President Tina Montz is excited to have the new cattle barn open for visitors, and she says the board is continuously addressing the rest of the grounds’ buildings which range from 50 to 70 years old, including the sheep barn, “We replaced the outer support poles and bracing and a new roof is planned for next year and then along with that members of the horse and pony club have been busy doing stall repairs. They enlarged the inside row pens to be larger for some of the larger horses that come in. But then they also extended up the divider walls so the horses can’t reach over the top and nip at a each other which is not a good thing whether they’re playing or somebody gets hurt it’s not a good thing. So they’ve been busy doing that and the repairs will be ready for the fair as well.”
The Washington County Fair takes place from July 18-23, and you can hear more from Montz during this coming Monday’s Halcyon House Washington Page on air and at kciiradio.com.
