The doors may be locked to the Washington Public Library beyond the holiday weekend this week as the facility undergoes some improvements.
Washington Public Library Director Bryna Walker says replacement of the library’s carpet is halfway completed, and this week they will begin phase two of the project which will involve large equipment to move book shelves. Walker says they will be closing the library during these times to avoid any incidents with patrons. Walker shares how they have strived to continue serving the public while having some of their reading areas closed, “Currently, we have just the children’s area that is open that doesn’t have boxes which is great right now because we’re in summer reading. There’s a lot of parents that are checking out books. If you do want to check out books as an adult or teen or JF (junior fiction), we would happily pull books for you. Just search our catalogue on the website and you can reserve it with your patron ID and then your last name is the password and it’s very, very handy to do.”
Walker adds that patrons can also call the library for additional help in requesting to check out materials. She advises to follow the library’s Facebook page for further notifications of closures. The library is replacing all of its carpet and some of its materials following a display glass window that fell and shattered from the atrium this spring. The third and fourth phases of this recovery project will be replacing and securing the glass display anticipated for late July or early August.
