Capping off the regular season strong is exactly what the Washington softball team did on Monday when they swept a pair of 10-0 games over their Southeast Conference rival in Mount Pleasant.

Game one saw Washington plate three in the first, six in the fourth, before one more in the fifth to make for a quick shutout mercy rule victory. Emmy Wenger was cleaning up at the dish going 3-for-4 with five RBI including a walk-off double in the fifth inning. Bella Salazar tossed a complete game giving up just one hit, one walk, and striking out eight Panther (1-36, 0-20) batters.

The nightcap was the Kellie Dallmeyer show going 4-for-4 with four RBI including a three run blast to left field in the second to open a 4-0 advantage. The Demons tacked on two more in the fourth and four in the sixth for their second 10-0 win of the day. Dallmeyer also had a pair of doubles and a single in her final game at home. Halle Cuddeback worked around numerous jams to finish the six inning shutout giving up eight hits and one free pass. Dallmeyer, Cameron Malichky, and Emma Herr were honored in between games for senior night. Malichky registered five walks on the evening and is now tied for the program’s season record with 33 free passes on the year. Herr was patient as well with four walks and collecting one RBI.

Head Coach Ben Obermann tells KCII Sports the team wanted to take two for the seniors. “You always want to win on senior night for those girls and it has been a number of years since we have. You have a lot of extra things going on during senior night and maybe you don’t always play your best ball, but we played well tonight. Offensively, defensively, and in the circle we took control and won for our seniors.”

Washington closes the regular season 20-16 overall and third in the SEC with a 12-7 league mark. They open the class 4A regionals on Thursday at Oskaloosa.
