The Mid-prairie Golden Hawk softball team begins the 3A regional tournament tonight when they meet No. 9 West Liberty. Mid-Prairie is 10-29 on the year after an 8-2 win over North Cedar on the road Friday. For the season, the Golden Hawks are hitting .313 as a team with a 6.88 ERA. Individually, Dakota Mitchell is .398 at the plate with 43 hits, 22RBI and 22 runs scored. In the circle, Myah Lugar is 7-18 in 150 innings with a 6.16 ERA.
West Liberty is 20-7 on the year. They went 2-1 over the weekend at the Iowa City West Tournament, beating Independence 3-2 and No. 7 in 5A Pleasant Valley 2-1 before falling to No. 1 in 5A Muscatine 3-1. For the year, the Comets are hitting .338 as a team with a staff ERA of 1.95. Individually, the Comets are led by Pearson Hall, hitting .438 with 32 hits, 37 runs scored and 17 RBI. In the circle, Sailor Hall is 10-4 overall with 77 innings worked and a 1.81ERA. These two teams met in a doubleheader in May with the Comets winning 12-4 and 8-5. West Liberty has won 11 straight in the series. The winner of this game advances to the 3A Regional Semifinals on Friday against the winner of Knoxville and Prairie City Monroe at West Liberty.
