The third meeting of the season resulted in another win for Highland over their rival Lone Tree with the stakes ramped up in the postseason. The Huskies pitched a shutout in Riverside on Wednesday by downing the Lions 5-0 in a class 1A regional quarterfinal.
The home Huskies plated a pair in each of the first two innings and one more in the fourth and that was all Grace Batcheller needed in the circle. The junior recorded the win tossing six innings of three hit ball giving up just one walk and striking out six. Jessica Kraus mowed down all three batters she faced to close out the playoff win. The offense had eight hits led by Sarah Burton going 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Payton Brun had two knocks and brought in a pair of tallies.
Lone Tree closes the season 10-16 and they bid farewell to one senior in Skylar Smith. Highland improves to 21-6 and they gear up for the regional semifinal tomorrow at Winfield-Mt. Union.
