It was business as usual for the Winfield-Mt. Union softball team on Wednesday when they opened the class 1A regionals with a 10-0 home victory over New London in the quarterfinal round.
After a five day lay off, the Wolves’ bats were eager to get going and they plated two in the first, one in the third, and a four spot in the fourth. A couple late runs put the game out of reach and WMU captured the mercy rule win. JET Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week Madie Anderson followed up last week’s perfect game with a six inning shutout giving up only one hit and one walk with 15 strikeouts. The offense brought their lunch pale and finished with 15 knocks including a 4-for-4 night from Kayreanna Sharar. Madie Anderson brought in three runs while Carlee Sloan, Anna Anderson, and Jobey Malone each had a pair of hits.
The Wolves improve to 17-5 and host Highland (21-6) tomorrow in a regional semifinal.
