Nearing the 20th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, a mobile exhibit that educates and pays tribute to that day will be returning to the Washington County Fair this weekend.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation 9/11 NEVER FORGET Mobile Exhibit is arriving in Washington this Saturday and will be open free for fair attendees from 1-7 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday. The exhibit made its first appearance in 2018, and Fair Board Member Amanda Russell says the success of that visit garnered a friendship between the fair board and the foundation, and the board was eager to bring the exhibit back, “We’re really excited to be hosting them because something that maybe not all attendees understand is that by bringing them we not only give opportunities for those that were around for 9/11 but those that were not. And we also, part of the funding to bring them here goes towards veterans that need new housing and so forth because of a tragic event that may have taken place or whatever the care they may need to accommodate their housing.”
The 83-foot tractor-trailer transforms into an 1,100 square foot exhibit which frequently changes its displays, so Russell assures there will be new features for attendees to take in. The fair board invites Washington County to give as warm of a welcome as they did in 2018, as local emergency agencies will be escorting the exhibit beginning at 2 p.m. at the Ainsworth Four Corners to the fairgrounds in Washington. You can hear more about the exhibit during Tuesday’s Halcyon House Washington Page at kciiradio.com.
