It was a tough ending to the 2021 campaign on Monday for the Keota baseball team when they failed to record a hit in a class 1A district quarterfinal by falling to Danville 6-0.

Sawyer Nelson kept the Eagle batters off balance all night and fired 6 1/3 innings without allowing a knock and the junior finished with 14 strikeouts. Grifen Molle recorded the final two outs for the combined no-hitter. That was more than enough for the Bear (6-14) offense, as they scored in the first, third, fourth, sixth, and seventh frames to put the game out of reach. Danville’s top hitter was Tyler Hartman going 2-for-2 with one RBI and a run scored. The Eagle defense had a rough night by finishing with eight errors and Carson Sprouse suffered the loss on the bump.

Keota finishes the season 15-8 and they say goodbye to seven seniors in Sprouse, Patrick Clarahan, Brady Duwa, Bryce Greiner, Luke Hammen, Max Johnson, and Sam Sieren.
