Young golfers learned from local instructors at the Kalona Optimist Club Junior Golf Camp July 5th through the 8th at the Kalona Golf Course. The camp was open to those between seven and 14 years of age. The largest participation numbers prior to this year occurred last year with 70. The 2021 enrollment was 90. Mid-Prairie head girls golf coach Tracy McArtor said he was excited to see so much interest from young players and know that the future looks bright for course members and area school teams. The boys and girls that attend work on everything from basic fundamentals to short game, putting and range work. On the last day, the course is set up for a tournament where all of the kids get to play. Trophies are awarded to the top three places in each age group with prizes and shirts awarded to all campers.
