An increase in student populations and a lack of space is causing the Mid Prairie School District to annex their elementary music classrooms.
Continued discussions on modular classroom agreements took place at the most recent board meeting with the board approving a 36-month lease with Vesta Modular for the use of two two-classroom buildings. The first will be installed at East Elementary with the second at West Elementary. An increase in student population at both schools has forced the schools to use the vocal music classrooms as regular classrooms. Mid Prairie Superintendent Mark Schneider explains the impact this has had on music teachers, “Last year at East Elementary, music teachers went from classroom to classroom to teach vocal music and obviously that is not an ideal situation. Next year at West we were gonna have to do the same thing with our preschool classes. With the increase we were gonna have to take over the musical classroom at West and so the teacher would have to go to different classrooms.”
Superintendent Schneider says they hope to have them installed this summer. The upcoming school year, music teachers will teach out of the modular classrooms and students will move between these classrooms and the school buildings.
