The journey in Fort Dodge begins today for the Sigourney softball team when the five-seeded Savages open the class 1A tournament with a quarterfinal bout against four-seeded Southeast Warren.

The South Iowa Cedar League champs in the Savages are 25-8 and they will try to keep an 11-game win streak going. They have reached this point after back-to-back 1-0 wins over English Valleys and North Mahaska followed by a 6-3 victory against Belle Plaine. The game against the Plainsmen was the first runs the Savages have surrendered since June 19th. Carly Goodwin has been a big reason for that stat with a 0.49 ERA in the circle that ranks third in the state. The freshman also leads the bats with a .491 average and senior Kaylee Weber has knocked in 34 tallies. The black and gold will have to be at their best against a Warhawk team that is 26-2 and leads 1A in many offensive categories. They hit .397 as a team and Josie Hartman leads it all off with a .495 BA and Makayla Ruble has brought in a monstrous 53 runs. Alivia Ruble does a bulk of the work in the circle with a 1.45 ERA in 106 innings. The Warhawks finished second in the Pride of Iowa Conference and they advanced to state after a 10-0 win over Southwest Valley, 14-5 victory over East Union, and a walk off three run blast to defeat Martensdale St. Marys 4-1 in the regional final. 

The winner of this game will play either #1 Newell-Fonda or #8 North Butler on Wednesday with a game on Thursday guaranteed as well. The loser will have a single consolation game tomorrow to close out their tournament. The state action begins at 11:30 a.m. this morning at the Harlan Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge.
