Washington County’s 2021 inductee to the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame has been involved with the county fair since he was a young boy.
Kevin Hora received the hall of fame award Thursday night during the Washington County Fair. Hora was a member of the Jackson Boys 4-H Club from 4th-12th grade, and he joined the fair board in 1992 following a family tradition. He has served as an all-around handyman in the past three decades, including helping with the building of Dallmeyer Hall, the creation of a livestock entrance for improved traffic flow, and the installation of a new cattle wash rack. Those are just a few of the improvements he’s helped been a part of at the fairgrounds, but Hora shares what he thinks is his greatest accomplishment, “I would say probably working with fellow fair board members, different 4-H’ers throughout the year, leaders, and Extension staff to be able to make the fair the best it can be each year. And it seems like every year there’s something different that changes that you have to address and so it can be a challenge, but it’s good.”
Hora will be inducted into the 4-H Hall of Fame at the Iowa State Fair this August, and you can hear more from him during today’s Halcyon House Washington Page. KCII makes its final live broadcast from the Washington County Fair today, and you can find show results here.
