The Highland softball team didn’t get cheated when it comes to postseason recognition, as the Southeast Iowa Super Conference recently released all conference teams and 10 Huskies were on the list.
They had the most first team picks in the division with five players making the cut including unanimous selection Sarah Burton. The freshman infielder paced the team with a .411 batting average with 11 RBI and came around to score 40 times. Her 29 stolen bases led the league. Other first team selections included Grace Batcheller, Abbi Stransky, Katelyn Waters, and Jessica Kraus. Batcheller recorded a 2.27 ERA in 114 innings of work in the circle, Stransky had a .346 on base percentage with 24 RBI, Waters played a strong outfield and was plated 19 times offensively, and Kraus had a .405 OBP as well as a 1.71 ERA in 73 innings.
Huskies that were named to the second team included Payton Brun, Mackinze Hora, and Jenna Sands. Brun had the second best average on the squad with .364, Hora brought in 16 tallies, and Sands recorded a .330 OBP. Mylei Smith and Kayla Cerny were named honorable mention. Smith came around to score eight times and Cerny registered six runs.
Highland finished third in the division with an 11-4 league mark and 22-7 overall.
