A Cedar Rapids man was recently sentenced for a Washington County incident.
Fifty-year-old Bradley James Emerson was originally charged by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office with intimidation with a dangerous weapon, a class D felony, for an incident that occurred on April 23rd at 3184 Highway 22 in Riverside. The criminal complaint stated that Emerson was witnessed yelling at a woman in the parking lot, and was holding a large knife. The witness then called for security, and Emerson first stated to law enforcement that he was not holding a knife at all, but then stated that he was holding a knife to cut rope.
Washington County Attorney John Gish then ordered in May that his charge be changed to assault with a dangerous weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor. Through a plea agreement Emerson was convicted on July 19th of assault, a simple misdemeanor, and he was ordered to serve 30 days in the Washington County Jail with credit for time already served. This sentence is to run concurrently with an ongoing Washington County case for possession of methamphetamine, first offense, a serious misdemeanor. Emerson was found to not have the reasonable ability to pay category B restitution.
