Despite the heat Washington residents didn’t sit out on a fundraising event for community murals in Central Park Thursday night.
The Washington Chamber of Commerce and LET’s Center for Healing and Creative Arts hosted its first ever Artfest with free children’s activities in the park and was followed by the Chair-a-Thon auction. The event which was postponed from last year put a new twist on the tube auction the LET’s Center held previously for five years and the proceeds are helping fund the State Theatre mural currently being painted off site to be installed this Saturday, as well as other murals the chamber hopes to commission. KCII General Manager Joe Nichols served as auctioneer for the 34 chairs that were sold, including a chair that was sold twice thanks to a charitable donation by Ronald Greiner. The auction collected around $2,900 in bids.
