The public can help support area children going back to school and bring home a new companion through a new event from PAWS & More Animal Shelter in Washington.

The shelter is hosting an “Adopt-a-Study-Buddy” promotion beginning tomorrow and lasting through August 16th. Those who drop off school supplies at the shelter will activate a $50 adoption fee for cats and kittens which are normally at a rate of $100. The shelter will then distribute the supplies to local schools in need. Shelter Director Amber Talbot says they wanted to give back to a community that has supported them so much, “And we have so many wonderful kittens available for adoption right now, it’s still our busy season. We had such a successful kitten shower. We placed 31 cats and kittens into homes so we’re hoping you guys can help us do that again through [our] adopt-a-study-buddy event.”

You can also give monetary donations through the shelter’s Facebook page which will then be used to purchase gift cards for local teachers or students in need of supplies before the school year. You can hear more about this event during today’s Halcyon House Washington Page on air and at kciiradio.com.
