The ninth biggest story for Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk sports from the most recent year takes us to the turf at Dwight G. Sattler Field in Wellman with the Golden Hawk football team. Mid-Prairie ended the year with a 4-4 overall record, but the season was not without drama. The Hawks four losses came by a combined 32 points, with three of them just one possession games and two of those, Sigourney-Keota and Belle Plaine decided on the final play of the contest.

Due to COVID-19, the Iowa High School Athletic Association reconfigured the playoff field for 2020, with Mid-Prairie receiving a bid into the class 2A postseason. In the opening round they hammered Central Lee 49-7, their second win over the Hawks in the campaign by a total of 98-7, before dropping a tough 18-15 game to Tipton in Wellman in round two.

The 2020 edition of the Golden Hawks also added their names to the team and individual program record books. They posted 447 yards in their victory over Central Lee, third most all-time for a single game in program history. Their eight touchdowns against Eddyville-Blakesburg is the fifth most in a game all-time. Individually, Kayden Reinier finished with 236 career points, fourth most all-time including 104 points in 2020, ninth most for a single season. His 39 career touchdowns were fourth most in Golden Hawk history with his 17 last season standing as the eighth highest total for one year. His five individual touchdowns against Central Lee are fourth most for a player in a single game for Mid-Prairie. Reinier’s 2,435 career rushing yards put him fifth on the all-time list with his 1,271 yard 2020 ranking eighth highest for a single season. He set the single game Mid-Prairie record, rushing for 316 yards in a win over Central Lee. His 269 yard performance on the ground against West Burlington Notre Dame is also the ninth most by an individual in Mid-Prairie history.

Vinnie Bowlin turned in the 10th best performance through the air for the program with 238 yards against Sigourney-Keota in the season opener. On special teams, Keegan Gingerich put his name amongst the Golden Hawk greats with a 94-yard kick-off return for touchdown against Eddyville-Blakesburg.
