The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has kept the status of Lake Darling at swimming not recommended after latest results.

Lake Darling has remained at this status since early July of this year. High E. coli levels have continued to show up after the most recent results on August 3rd. Lake Darling Park Manager Nick Young explains some of the health risks when swimming in these conditions, “Skin irritation and upset stomach typically is about the only thing you are going to see for most people at most.”

Results from August 3rd show the five day mean of E. coli levels are at 164 colony forming units per 100 milliliters of water with the highest one day sample at 680 colony forming units. For the status to change back to swimming OK the five day mean must be below 126 units with the highest one day sample not exceeding 235 units.
