Washington County residents have a couple days left to cool off at a couple public swimming pools.
Sunday is the last day for the Steele Family Aquatic Center in Washington, and the Kalona City Pool will be ending its season on Monday. The YMCA of Washington County which operates both pools took safety measures this season amid the COVID-19 pandemic, including limiting daily capacity to 175 people at the Washington facility and 100 people in Kalona. Children under the age of 12 were required to be supervised by an adult 18 years and older, and patrons were asked not to gather at the facility entrances prior to opening and to follow social distancing during the admission process.
Pooches have the upper paw the next couple weekends as the Kalona City Pool is hosting a dog-only swim from 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday August 21st and 28th. This is a free event and human participants are asked to follow social distancing guidelines.
