As COVID-19 continues to impact schools and education, the Mid-Prairie School District has plans in place to help keep students and staff healthy and safe.

Governor Kim Reynolds passed legislation this spring that bans school districts from having mandatory mask mandates on school grounds. While there is no mandate, Mid-Prairie is encouraging students and staff to wear a mask as they see fit. Schedules have been put in place to regularly disinfect classrooms and other areas of the schools with hand sanitizer readily available to everyone. Mid-Prairie Superintendent Mark Schneider recently met with school nurses to review protocols for the upcoming year, “Contact tracing is no longer mandated by public health and neither is quarantining. We’ll have to meet those challenges as best as we can. I’ve got four competent school nurses and I’m sure that they will work together to do whatever we can to keep our students safe.”

Schneider later added that classrooms and buses will be back to normal capacity with 17 to 22 students in a classroom and masks will not be required on buses. He said that social distancing will be done to the best of their abilities with the space they have. The school will also be allowing students to take educational field trips during the fall where students can be outside. Visitors are also welcome to the school on a limited basis. Adjustments to rules and regulations will be made as necessary as the year progresses.
