As the new school year is set to start, the Sigourney High School principal is receiving praise from students and the state of Iowa.
Earlier this month Shannon Webb was announced as the 2021 Iowa Association of Student Councils High School Administrator of the Year. Webb was nominated for the award by one of her students, Isabelle Ireland, a senior at Sigourney High School who has been battling ovarian cancer and is now in remission. Webb gives her thoughts on what it means to be nominated by her, “Isabelle always knew that I was always there for her, our student body was always there for her. I didn’t expect her to go out and nominate me for an award because I just feel like that’s my job everyday, is to make sure that our students feel welcome and that they love coming into this building and that they know they have a safe place that they can come. By Isabelle doing that, it made me know that I’m at least doing something right with my job.”
Webb will be presented with the award on October 24th at the Student Council Conference at the Iowa Event Center in Des Moines.
