A new yet familiar face will be at the helm for the Washington volleyball team this fall in hopes to jumpstart the program in 2021.
Aaron Six, who is the Washington Middle School Dean of Students takes over for Lexa Mahr as head coach of the Demons. Six has been teaching in the district since the 1990s and previously was the head coach of the volleyball team in the early 2000s. He takes over a squad that went 4-20 last year and lost seven players to graduation. Five letter winners return including seniors Ava Turner and Olivia Hamilton. Kenializ Espinosa is back for her junior campaign after 59 kills in 2020, junior Alex Murphy looks to build off of 48 kills, and Remy Messinger returns after being successful on 95% of her serves.
Six tells KCII Sports in order to build this program back up it all starts with the simple things. “Something I am focusing on is really mastering the fundamentals and going back to the basics. We have been working a lot on footwork on our approaches and passing. We are trying to put ourselves in position to play the high percentage shots. The girls have really stepped up and I am pleased with the progress they are making.”
The Demons open the season Thursday at Mid-Prairie.
