Swine, pies, and porcelain tile are just some of the contests Washington-area residents excelled in at this year’s Iowa State Fair.

Morgan Brinning was reserve champion in FFA market swine overall, and was champion in crossbred market gilt, with Washington receiving a chapter award. For the milking shorthorn dairy cattle show, Emma Alderton received second in fall heifer calf. In the creative arts competition, Christal Arthur won first in nonprofessional landscape traditional brush and watercolor and second in framed porcelain tile. Ashley Evans won second for her spice layer cake, and in beer and wine making John TeBockhorst won first in international pale lager and cider and second in berry mead. For the twins, triplets, and more contest, Bristol, Carti and Jett Jepson won first in the two-year-old least alike category. Colton and Adelyn Carr of West Chester claimed second and third place, respectively, for the age 4-16 division of the duck calling contest, and Wooden Wheel Vineyards of Keota received silver for their “Brother V” wine at the commercial wine contest.
