The Washington County rivalry on the volleyball court renews tonight when Mid-Prairie welcomes Washington to Wellman in week one of the season.
The Golden Hawks sit at 3-0 on the young campaign after winning the Keota tournament on Monday by sweeping Highland, Lone Tree, and Keota. Ella Groenewold led the team with 13 kills while Maddie and Maya Nonnenmann added 11. Mid-Prairie is coming off of a 9-16 fall in 2020. This will be the season opener for the Demons with first year head coach Aaron Six. Washington went 4-20 last season and saw seven players graduate. Five letter winners are back including Kenializ Espinosa looking to improve on 59 kills and Alex Murphy with her 48 kills. Ava Turner and Olivia Hamilton are returning seniors for the squad.
The Golden Hawks have won the last seven meetings in the series including every best of five match since 2012. The varsity gets underway at 7:15 p.m. tonight in Wellman.
