Multiple rounds of severe weather headed through southern Washington County Thursday night.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was first issued at 10:43 p.m. for west central Washington County and at 11:15 p.m. for the southwestern portion which was allowed to expire at 12:15 p.m. The radar indicated storms had expected hazards of 70 mile per hour wind gusts and quarter size hail, as well as cloud to ground lightning. Storm reports sent to the National Weather Service observed 60 mile per hour wind gusts at Lake Darling State Park, while in Keokuk County hail reports of 1.50-1.75 inches in diameter were observed near Sigourney. The Keokuk County Sheriff’s Office reported three downed trees in Delta at 10:20 p.m. Five members of the KCII Severe Weather Action Team brought live on-air coverage of the storm, and had the power gone out, KCII would remain on the air with our back up generator.
