Mid-Prairie has had Washington’s number on the volleyball court for the better part of the last decade and that trend continued on Thursday when the Golden Hawks swept away the Demons in Wellman.

In front of a raucous home crowd, the Hawks had the upper hand all night with set wins of 25-14, 25-14, and 25-6. Dakota Mitchell got on an unbelievable serving run in the third set helping her team jump out to a 14-0 advantage. The freshman was successful on 18 of her 22 serves with four aces to lead a team that had 22 aces on the night. Ella Groenewold paced the offense with 10 kills and Landry Pacha managed 23 assists. Mitchell added 11 digs defensively and Maya Nonnenmann recorded five blocks. The Golden Hawks have won 16 of the last 17 meetings dating back to 2012.

Mid-Prairie improved to 4-0 and they travel to West Branch on Thursday. Washington turned around and played at Grinnell for a tournament on Saturday where they lost three matches to Iowa Valley (22-24, 21-15, 15-12), East Marshall (21-18, 20-22, 15-8), and Clear Creek-Amana (21-8, 21-9). They drop to 0-4 and get back on the court tomorrow against Burlington for the home opener.
