West Branch was the destination for the first tournament of the fall for the Winfield-Mt. Union volleyball team on Saturday and the Wolves finished in a tie for third.
WMU opened the day with pool play wins over Prince of Peace (21-5, 21-12) and Wapello (21-19, 21-18) before falling to the host Bears (18-21, 21-5, 15-11). They advanced to the winners bracket where they lost in the semifinal to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont (25-13, 25-17). Melina Oepping led the offense on the day with 21 kills and Bradie Buffington had nine. Keely Malone dished out 41 assists and had nine blocks while Keetyn Townsley was successful on 27 of 28 serves with two aces and she registered 34 digs.
The Wolves are now 3-2 on the young season and get back on the court Thursday at Pekin.
