It was the home opener on Tuesday for the Washington volleyball team and Burlington spoiled the party with a three set sweep of the Demons to kickoff Southeast Conference play.

The Grayhounds (1-3) took care of business with set scores of 25-17, 25-19, and 25-18. The Demons were led offensively by Alex Murphy with seven kills and Audrey Anderson added five. Haley Mitchell dished out six assists and was successful on 11 of 12 serves with one ace.

On the ropes in the third set, Washington scored six straight points to cut the deficit to 20-17 and head coach Aaron Six tells KCII Sports finding that energy level throughout the entire match is key. “I thought that stretch we really played hard and we talked in the locker room after about needing that all the time. When we played this weekend and tonight we are just struggling to find ways to win. We can’t consistently put runs together and when we do we give runs right back. Like tonight we score six straight which is awesome, but then we gave up four straight. Finding that consistency will be the next step.”

The Demons drop to 0-6 and search for their first win Saturday when they travel to Anamosa for a tournament.
