A local educator who has worked in multiple school districts across Washington County is now at the helm at Washington High School.

Teresa Beenblossom applied for and accepted the position of high school principal following Erik Buchholz’s move to teach at the middle school. Beenblossom was principal for Lincoln Elementary for five years, and prior to that she was the principal for the former Kalona Elementary, St. James Catholic School and Washington’s alternative high school, and held teaching and guidance counselor positions at Lincoln and previous schools. Beenblossom comments on starting her 25th year in education, “I absolutely love being at the high school. It has been really fascinating to see the students so the ninth and 10th graders I actually had those students at Lincoln and then 10th and 11th graders if they went to St. James I had them. So coming to that meet the teacher night for the freshman was super exciting because the kids recognized me, I was excited to see them, they were excited to see me.”

Beenblossom says she missed not getting to see the Lincoln students play on the new playground equipment the school had long raised funds for, but she knows the school is in good hands with its teaching staff and new principal Susie Lund. Beenblossom looks forward to continuing to push students to do their absolute best while focusing on their training of the Capturing Kids’ Hearts program.
