It’s the home opener tonight for the Washington Demon football team when they welcome rival Mount Pleasant to Case Field for the annual Heroes Game.

The Demons will look to bounce back after a 39-18 season opening loss to Burlington last week in a game plagued by cramping issues. Washington was outscored 25-0 in the second half, as they struggled to keep players on the field. The team plans to get a few athletes back for tonight to help an offense that had 206 total yards. Mount Pleasant is also coming off of a tough loss in week one to Fairfield by a 27-18 score. Trying to replace 88% of their total yardage lost from 2020, first year quarterback Carson Coleman completed seven of 13 passes for 147 yards and a score.

Demon head coach Nick Ehret tells KCII Sports Mount Pleasant’s schemes are a lot like looking in the mirror. “They are really similar to us in what we do. Last week we faced a more traditional type offense and now we will see a spread. They want to run the football, have some explosive players, and their quarterback can throw a really nice deep ball. It is never easy transitioning from seeing an offense like last week to something totally different, but what should help us is they are similar to us on both sides so we have repped it since camp started.” The orange and black have won the last 10 in the series dating back to 2009 including a 41-27 victory last year.

All past and present EMT firefighters, law enforcement, and military personnel are invited to participate in pregame festivities to honor them for their service. The rivalry matchup takes place at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Washington and listen to the live play-by-play on FM 106.1 KCII. Our coverage begins at 6 for the Football Friday Preview Show to breakdown all of the games in Southeast Iowa and at 7 we will take over from Case Field.
