The latest chapter of the Sigourney-Keota and Mid-Prairie football rivalry went the way of the No. 9 ranked Cobras Friday at the Snake Pit 42-12. The first points belonged to the Snakes when Cade Molyneux polished off an eight play 44 yard march with a two yard touchdown run in the last two minutes of the first quarter. The Hawks were stopped on their next drive when Molyneux got the strip and fumble recovery, only to see Mid-Prairie return the favor early in the second quarter with Grady Gingerich knocking the ball free to be recovered by Collin Miller. With that possession Mid-Prairie would put together their most solid drive of the night 10 plays, 86 yards that finished with a Will Cavanagh 31 yard rushing touchdown, after a failed two point conversion it was 7-6. SK regained control with a methodical 16 play, 88 yard drive that Molyneux finished with his second score of the night, this one from one yard out in the final seconds of the half to put SK on top 14-6 at the break.

The Cobras got the ball out of half and continued their momentum, going 57 yards on three plays, finished with a Colten Clarahan to Levi Crawford 33 yard passing touchdown to grow the lead to 21-6. The Cobras would make it three straight possessions with a touchdown the next time they had the ball, going 71 yards on 10 plays finished with a nine yard scamper for score from Molyneux to go up 28-6. In the fourth, Sigourney-Keota would add touchdowns from Levi Crawford and Jack Moore on the ground while Mid-Prairie found the end zone one more time with Cavanagh on a swing pass to Braden Hartley for 14 yards. After the game, Sigourney-Keota head coach Jared Jensen talked about his offensive line, Molyneux big night and the work of his team’s defense.

The top ten Cobras outgained No. 15 Mid-Prairie 403-239 including 382 to 113 on the ground. Mid-Prairie won the passing totals 136-33. SK had 23 first downs to 16 for the Hawks and the Cobras forced three turnovers on the night, along with Molyneux fumble recovery, Ethan Shifflett and Cole Clarahan each had an interception. Molyneux had his second monster night in as many weeks, with 34 carries for 228 yards and three touchdowns to lead all offensive performers. Levi Crawford caught one pass for 33 yards and a score. Defensively, Evan Dawson and Colten Clarahan finished with five tackles each. Cavanagh led Mid-Prairie going 17 of 28 through the air for 136 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. Collin Miller and Tyler Helmuth each made four catches. On the ground, Cavanagh had 13 carries for 97 yards and a score. Justice Jones led the Golden Hawk defense with 17 tackles. Mid-Prairie was without the services on the offensive and defensive lines of Cael Garvey, Gannon Calahan and Shawn Dodds entering play, while starters Grady Gingerich and Cain Brown suffered injuries during the contest. With the win, the No. 9 Cobras stay unbeaten at 2-0 and will next be in action Friday when they travel to Centerville. No. 15 Mid-Prairie returns home next week to meet rival Iowa City Regina.
