The first Monday of September is annually celebrated as Labor Day in the United States to honor and recognize the American labor movement, with closures of schools, government buildings, and other establishments today.

The Washington County Courthouse and city halls including Washington, Kalona, Wellman, and Riverside are closed for the federal holiday. The Washington, Kalona, and Wellman-Scofield public libraries are also closed today as well as Washington County Mini Bus. For garbage routes Riverside’s will operate as normal today, Washington’s routes will run a day late this week, Kalona’s pickup will be on Tuesday, and Wellman’s on Thursday. Regularly scheduled city council meetings on Monday have also been moved to Tuesday. All post offices are closed, as well as most banking institutions.
