mum-fundraiser

The Mid-Prairie Home School Assistance Program has brought back their mum fundraiser after a successful first year.

After beginning the Roots and Shoots program to help students better understand the impact that plants have in their world, teachers wanted to provide an interactive opportunity for both residents and students. Throughout the year students help grow chrysanthemums and other plants in the school greenhouse and around the Mid-Prairie Home School Education Center. Home school assistance program teacher Laura Mallory explains why they are providing this interactive program, “We want to pass on the outdoor education that we have as a passion. My family is the one that donated the greenhouse and we love just working with the students and giving them an experience they may not get at home.”

The mum sale is open from 12 to 6 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon tomorrow at the Mid-Prairie Home School Education Center. Over 15 different types of mums and two different grasses will be available for purchase. All proceeds will go towards the sustainability of the Roots and Shoots program, upgrades to the center and needed supplies. For more information visit this story at kciiradio.com.
