It was an emphatic start to a Southeast Conference matchup on Tuesday for Washington at Fort Madison, but the momentum didn’t hold up in a four set loss.

The Demons were riding high after picking up their first win of the season in a three set match over Burlington in the Ottumwa tournament Saturday. That confidence showed on Tuesday by taking the first set 25-17 highlighted by 11 straight points where Audrey Anderson was serving. The Bloodhounds (4-13) rattled off three straight set wins to take the match victory with scores of 25-17, 25-13, and 25-19.

Despite the loss, head coach Aaron Six tells KCII Sports there is a lot of positives to take away from the first set. “It was great to see everyone come together and really get after it. There was a few times where a hustle play had to happen to keep the rally going and we did that. That brought the energy to our bench and players on the court to keep the momentum on our side.”

Washington is now 1-16, 0-4 in the SEC, and they get back on the court Tuesday hosting Fairfield (7-9).
