The 49th annual Kalona Fall Festival is making its return tomorrow and Saturday with a packed schedule of entertainment.
This year’s festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. tomorrow and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Music performances including Mid-Prairie and Hillcrest Academy ensembles are scheduled tomorrow with the talent show, carving auction, and community awards on Saturday. Exhibits in the historical village will be open to the public with pony rides, the Tractorcade and a bags tournament for residents to participate. Kalona Historical Village Managing Director Nancy Roth says they are looking for participants for the talent show, bags tournament and Tractorcade and she encourages everyone from the surrounding communities to come out, “People not from here, if you don’t necessarily want to participate in those activities, we’ve just got some great demonstrations. If you’ve never been to the village, all of the buildings are open for you to tour. We’ve got some great vendors coming. I think the weather is actually supposed to cooperate for us and it’s supposed to be a nice weekend. So it’s just an all around fun time to come to.”
Local historian Mike Zahs’ “History in a Cloth Bag” lecture at 1 p.m. Friday and 12:30 p.m. Saturday, craft and story times hosted by the Kalona Public Library, “Down on the Farm” activities, and more can be experienced at the festival.Admission is $6 for adults, $3 for kids 5 to 12 and free for children four and under. Volunteers are still needed. For more information on how to sign-up for events or help volunteer, visit here.
