Wayland was the destination for five Southeast Iowa Super Conference volleyball teams on Thursday for pool play in the conference tournament and WACO just missed out on advancing.

The Warriors went 2-2 on the night and placed third in the pool. They opened with a pivotal matchup against Mediapolis and lost in three sets (19-21, 21-7, 12-15). The home Warriors handled the next two sets against Pekin (21-6, 21-15) and Cardinal (21-7, 21-8), but were swept by No. 1 Burlington Notre Dame (6-21, 14-21) to fall short of advancing. Grace Coble tallied 53 assists in the four games, nine kills, and 22 digs. Emma Wagler recorded 24 kills, Ellah Kissell had 20 kills, Jocelyn Fulton managed 32 digs, and Katie Leichty had four blocks.

Head Coach Jay Coble tells KCII Sports he is pleased with where his team is at. “I am tickled to death to be 12-8 with five sophomores playing and a whole new lineup. I thought we had a really great week of practice. We showed a lot of desire against Notre Dame in the second set. We were not intimidated against a team that plays so well and has so many weapons. I was very pleased with that.”

Burlington Notre Dame and Mediapolis advanced to Saturday’s finals at Southeastern Community College. WACO is now 12-8 on the season and they host Cardinal on Monday.
