The Hillcrest Academy Raven volleyball team will honor their senior class tonight on the court when they welcome Rivermont Collegiate to Hillcrest Union in Kalona. The Ravens are 5-18 on the season after dropping three of four matches at Thursday’s pool play round of the Southeast Iowa Superconference Tournament in Wapello, falling to Danville, Holy Trinity Catholic and the home Arrows before rebounding to beat rival Lone Tree. For the season, the Ravens are led by senior Esther Hughes with 115 kills and 39 blocks. Senior Norah Yoder has a team best 254 assists and freshman Malia Yoder leads the Hillcrest defense with 172 digs. This week, Hillcrest head coach Brandon Statler talked with KCII Sports about the leadership of this senior class. “I think the senior leadership this year has been on point. They are so important to our program. They focus, especially when things get tough. They are coachable. They apply the things they know and our coaching talking points on the court. They do a great job representing and promoting Hillcrest Academy.”
Rivermont Collegiate is a college preparatory school in Bettendorf that serves pre-K through 12th grade students. According to available statistics they have played two matches this fall, tying innercity rival Morningstar Academy and falling in a sweep to Lone Tree. Against the Lions tonight, the Ravens will honor five seniors, Hughes, Kyleigh Dolan, Evelyn Gerber, Norah Yoder and Grace Miller. Action starts tonight at 5:30 in Kalona.
