A newly healthy Columbus Community football team translated to an efficient night on the gridiron Friday when they welcomed Pekin (0-5) to Columbus Junction and rolled to a 42-14 district win.
The offense had the ball for seven possessions and reached the end zone in six of them. They held a 7-0 lead after one and 21-0 at the break before adding three more scores in the fourth for the convincing win. The Wildcats amassed 368 total yards, all on the ground, with Kaden Amigon being the bell cow. The sophomore running back toted the rock 20 times for 245 yards and three touchdowns while Triston Miller reached pay dirt twice on 57 yards rushing. The defense held the Panthers to 2.8 yards per rush for 131 total and that unit was led by Logan Bright’s 10 tackles.
Head Coach Dave Lekwa tells KCII Sports the offense was humming along because the big boys upfront. “Our offensive line did a heck of a job. They have been working really hard in practice and it paid off. With Robert Coil at center, the guards in Russell Coil and Julian Jimenez, the tackles in Bryan Miranda and Gabe Alcala, and tight end Markell Zapiensz they all really paved the way for us.”
Columbus improves to 2-3 overall and they dip out of district Friday when they travel to face North Mahaska (0-5).
