A Perry man who was arrested for allegedly stealing livestock from the Kalona Sale Barn last March pleaded guilty to an amended charge.

Twenty-year-old Logan Frank Steadman was originally charged with first-degree theft, a class C felony for an incident in which he purchased 42 goats for the amount of $10,840, loaded the goats into his livestock trailer, and left the sale barn without paying for the purchase. When contacted, Steadman stated the goats were purchased for a Minnesota-based company and delivered to that facility. A Washington County Sheriff’s deputy contacted said company who stated they never requested Steadman to purchase the livestock and the goats weren’t delivered to them.

Court records show that on September 23rd Steadman’s charge was amended to fourth-degree fraudulent practices, a serious misdemeanor. Through a plea agreement Steadman’s judgment was deferred. He is to be placed on one year of probation, pay a civil penalty of $430 as well as any pecuniary damages filed, and category B restitution. Upon fulfillment of his probation conditions and payment of the court costs Steadman shall be discharged without the entry of judgment and may file a written request for expungement.
