The Mid-Prairie volleyball team hits the road tonight to meet the Tipton Tigers in River Valley Conference play. The Golden Hawks are 8-5 on the year after sweeping the rival Iowa City Regina Regals Tuesday on Pink Out Night at Tim Grady Gymnasium. That victory marked the Hawks third straight best of five conference win, their longest string in 15 seasons. For the year, Mid-Prairie is led by Ella Groenewold with 87 kills and 40 blocks. Landry Pacha has a team best 235 assists and Dakota Mitchell paces the Mid-Prairie defense with 171 digs. This week, Mid-Prairie head volleyball coach Sherry Evans talked about her team’s recent stretch of play. “We have done a great job setting the tone against our opponents and running a faster offense. Our goal is to beat the ball to the floor. If we can do that we are always getting the ball up, we are always running up tempo with good passes and giving ourselves more chances to score on the other team.”
Tipton is 6-16 for the season. The Tigers were last on the court at the North Cedar tournament Saturday where they were swept by Iowa City Regina and Springville, but secured a win over Midland. For the year, the Tigers are led by Avary Calonder with 108 kills, Claire Montgomery with 251 assists and Carly Langenberg with 168 digs. Tipton has won 18 of the last 22 in the series but the Golden Hawks beat the Tigers twice a season ago. Action starts tonight at 7:15p.m. at Tipton High School.
