Fall is underway in Iowa which means cooler nights, less bugs and an array of autumn colors.

The first fall color report for southeast Iowa was released by the Department of Natural Resources on September 20th. Some yellow leaves are starting to appear with poison ivy, dogwood, and sumac starting to show reds and a little purple. Peak season for color change in southeast Iowa is projected to be between the second and fourth weeks of October. According to the DNR, northeast Iowa has seen similar changes but is projected to peak next week. As temperatures begin to cool down further, Iowa’s landscape will change along with it.
