A share of the lead in class 2A district six is on the line tonight when the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks visit the Williamsburg Raiders on their Homecoming. The Golden Hawks are 3-2 on the year and 2-0 in district play after throttling Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont and Central Lee over the last two weeks by a combined 108-8 score. Against the Hawks last week, Mid-Prairie started seven drives on the Hawk side of the field, three inside the 10 yard line, scored touchdowns on their first three plays from scrimmage and enacted the running clock in the first quarter of a 66-8 blowout win. On the year, the Golden Hawks are led by Will Cavanagh at 38 of 54 for 523 yards through the air, six touchdowns and two interceptions. His favorite target is Jack Pennington with 11 catches for 122 yards and a pair of scores. On the ground, Tyler Helmuth has 29 carries for 297 yards and nine touchdowns. Justice Jones leads the Golden Hawk defense with 38 and a half tackles, eight for loss and has an interception and fumble recovery.

Williamsburg is 2-3 on the season. After going winless in non-district play the Raiders have gotten right once the schedule turned to class 2A district 6, winning games over Central Lee and Centerville over the last two weeks by a combined 110-3 score. In their victory a week ago over the Big Reds, Williamsburg took the contest 48-3. The Raiders put up 308 yards on the night, building a 27-0 lead in the first quarter. Cade Ritchie was 15 of 22 passing with 258 yards and five touchdowns. Jake Weber caught four of those scores in five total passes for 111 yards. Gable Dayton rushed 17 times for 37 yards. Derek Weisskopf led the Raider defense with 7.5 tackles. Williamsburg turned the Big Reds over six times on the night, including five interceptions. On the year, the Raiders are led by Ritchie in the passing game with 48 of 81 for 635 yards, 12 touchdowns and six interceptions. His top target is Weber with 16 catches for 338 yards and eight touchdowns. On the ground, Dayton has 41 carries for 195 yards with a pair of scores. Weisskopf has a team best 30 and a half tackles for a Raider defense that has forced 11 turnovers in five games. This week, Mid-Prairie head coach Pete Cavanagh talked about the Hawks keys for spoiling the Raiders Homecoming. “We have to limit huge mistakes. We had a couple of those the last time we played them. I thought we have played well the last few times against them but bad mistakes at bad times have decided the game. Give credit to Williamsburg, they force you into those things. We need to be able to move the football on offense and limit big plays on defense. If we can do that we’ll have a shot.”

This will be the 23rd all-time meeting between the two schools with the Raiders winning 18. Williamsburg has won seven straight over the Hawks including a 24-8 win in Williamsburg on Homecoming a year ago. The winner of this game will keep pace with Davis County who also enters tonight 2-0 in the district race.
