A Texas man was recently sentenced for an alleged incident in which he stole a semi tractor in Henry County.
Court records show that through a plea agreement 31-year-old Sebastian Athos Rios Sierra is convicted of interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor, and a charge was dismissed for operating a vehicle without owner’s consent, an aggravated misdemeanor. A 30-day jail sentence was suspended with credit for time served dependent on good behavior for one year. The charges stemmed from a March 23rd, 2021 incident in which the Henry County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a stolen semi-tractor from the vehicle’s owner who had been monitoring the location of the rig via GPS. Mount Pleasant Police assisted in stopping the semi-tractor, and during the stop Rios Sierra attempted to get back into the vehicle and leave the scene. An investigation determined he had driven several hundred miles from his destination, had abandoned the semi-trailer and its contents, and was trying to return to Texas.
