It’s an all-KCII area showdown Friday when the Lone Tree Lions travel to Roth Field to meet the top 10 unbeaten WACO Warriors. The Lions come into the game with a 3-2 record on the season. They dropped their Homecoming game last Friday to area team Winfield-Mt. Union 32-22. Cade Shield was 11 of 18 through the air for 141 yards and a touchdown. Shield also had a pair of touchdowns on the ground with 19 carries for 116 yards. Matthew Hemsted had nine and a half tackles. For the year the Lone Tree aerial attack is led by Shield at 54 of 93 for 613 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions. His favorite target is Cade Patterson with 30 catches for 368 yards and four scores. Shield also leads on the ground with 92 carries for 473 yards and nine touchdowns. Top tackler on the Lion defense is Hemsted with 43 tackles.
WACO is unbeaten on the year at 6-0. They are currently ranked No. 9 in the state in latest 8-man poll from the Iowa Associated Press. Last week the Warriors were road winners at No. 14 New London 7-0 on a Simeon Reichenbach to Jonah Clark fourth quarter 24 yard touchdown pass. On the year, the Warriors are led by Isaac Oswald at 20 of 48 for 317 yards and four touchdowns. Top Receiver is Jonah Clark with six catches for 113 yards and three touchdowns. Simeon Reichenbach is the top ground gainer with 88 carries for 754 yards and 12 touchdowns. Drew Diers leads the WACO defense with 31 and a half tackles. Lone Tree has won eight of the last 12 games in the series including two straight. The Lions were a 42-6 winner over the Warriors a year ago. WACO’s last win was a 49-38 victory in 2018. Action starts tonight at 7p.m. at Roth Field in Wayland.
