Residents in southeast Iowa will have another opportunity to explore Washington County with an upcoming bus tour.

Local historian Mike Zahs will be guiding a tour around southern Washington County on October 17th. Participants will have the opportunity to see a former amusement park, unknown cemeteries, different historical sites and sceneries and more. A charter bus will be transporting participants around with some light walking during the tour. Zahs hosted a previous bus tour of the eastern portion of the county in late June and he explains why he is continuing to help host these tours, “We’ll just try to expose people to the county they live in. They don’t have to live in [Washington County] to go on the trip, but I just think history means more when you know what happened close to home and that’s what I try to do.”

All participants will meet at the Ainsworth Opera House at 1 p.m. with the bus departing at 1:30 and arriving back at the opera house at 6. Cost is $65 per person which includes a meal offered after the tour. All funds will go towards sustaining the opera house community center. Reservations and payment must be made by October 10th.
