Demons, Golden Hawks and Wildcats appear in the latest cross country poll released this week by the Iowa Track and Field Coaches Association.
The Washington Demon boys are ranked No. 19 in class 3A this week. The Demon boys were team champions at their third consecutive meet, bringing home the title Thursday at the Washington Golf and Country Club, paced by Lance Sobaski’s individual title in his final home race and Micah Rees’ runner-up finish. In the 3A individual boys poll, those two Demons also appear with Sobaski at No. 6 and Rees No. 22.
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls continue their run at the top of the 2A team poll this week. The Hawks were meet champions at Monday’s Clear Creek Amana Classic in Iowa City, posting a perfect team score of 15. Mid-Prairie was led by Danielle Hostetler with the individual title, Sydney Yoder second, Jaden Yoder third, Phoebe Shetler fourth, Mitzi Evans fifth, Abby Fleming sixth and Annika Poll 13th. In the 2A girls individual poll for the week, the entire Golden Hawk scoring lineup appears in the top 22 of 2A with Danielle Hostetler No. 1, Sydney Yoder No. 9, Jaden Yoder No. 17, Phoebe Shetler No. 18 and Mitzi Evans No. 22.
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys are fourth in this week’s class 2A poll. Monday they were team runners-up at the Clear Creek Amana Classic. The Hawks were led in Iowa City by Thaddeus Shetler who captured his first individual race championship. He is sixth in class 2A’s individual ratings.
The Columbus boys are No. 16 in the class 1A team poll. They were team champions at last week’s Mount Pleasant meet. Freddy Vergara led the Wildcats with a runner-up finish. Vergara also appears in this week’s 1A individual poll at No. 19.
