Three KCII area volleyball teams took the floor in New London Saturday for tournament action. The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks had the highest area finish, taking second at the event with a 3-2 record. Mid-Prairie recorded wins over Highland 21-6 and 21-15, Van Buren 21-10 and 21-18 and New London 21-15, 9-21 and 15-13. Their two losses both came to West Burlington, match one by scores of 21-14, 15-21 and 16-14 and match two by 21-18 and 21-13 counts. On the day, the Golden Hawks were led by Maya Nonnenmann with 37 kills, Landry Pacha with 134 assists and Dakota Mitchell 68 digs. The Golden Hawks are now 12-7 for the year and travel to Monticello Thursday.
Winfield Mt. Union finished in a third place tie at the event with a 2-2 overall record. The Lady Wolves went 2-1 in pool play, beating Louisa-Muscatine 21-12 and 21-9 and English Valleys 21-6 and 21-16. They fell to the Tigers on their home floor 21-19 and 21-17 before bowing out in the semifinals to West Burlington 21-16 and 21-11. On the day, WMU was led by Bradie Buffington with 19 kills, Keely Malone ended with 52 assists and Keetyn Townsley 52 digs. She was also a perfect 33 of 33 from the service line. The Wolves are 17-10 for the year and host Lone Tree Tuesday.
The Highland Huskies went 0-3 Saturday dropping matches in straight sets to Van Buren, West Burlington and Mid-Prairie. The Huskies are 9-11 on the year, they travel to Hillcrest Academy Thursday.
