Hillcrest Academy hosted their final cross country meet of the season Monday on their campus in Kalona, and it turned out to be a big night for the Washington Demons.
The Washington girls claimed the team title at Hillcrest with a score of 42 points. Pella was second with a score of 67 points. The Demons utlized pack running to bring home the championship with the top finish coming from Kendal Hinrichsen in sixwith with a time of 22:07. She was followed by Lauren Horak in seventh, Alyvia Anderson in eighth, Quincy Griffis in ninth, Isabella Lujan 11th, Taylor Bartholomew 13th, and Giselle Marcelino 15th.
Hillcrest Academy was led on the night by Leah Bontrager in 16th with a time of 23:07. Other Ravens included Delaney Shaw 38th, Morgyn Nafziger 40th and Julia Boller 41st. Lone Tree had Vivian Zaruba finish in 35th.
In the boys race, Washington was the team runner-up with a score of 71. Pella won the championship with 53. The Demons were led by a 1-2 punch at the top with Lance Sobaski taking the individual title in a time of 17:12. Micah Rees was runner-up in 17:35. Other Washington runners included Drew Horak 13th, Tyler Alderton 18th, Quinn Wubbena 37th, Peyton Snakenberg 41st, and Cameron Vongpanya 52nd.
Hillcrest Academy was eighth of eight schools with 231 points. Top boys finish for the Ravens was Collin Miller in 28th with a time of 19:47. Other Ravens included Jesse Blossom 49th, Jorge Canchola 56th, Diego Ramos 57th, Garrett Hurst 58th, Quang Huynh 59th, and Isaac Lybeck 62nd.
Three Lone Tree runners completed the course with Taylor Alberhasky 50th in 23:04, Jadin Greiser 54th and Joey Birtcher 55th.
