wayland-greet-and-treat

The second annual “Greet and Treat” in Wayland is hitting the streets tomorrow for an evening of community and candy.

Beginning at 5 p.m. the public is welcome to Main Street in Wayland to visit local business booths and grab a few treats along the way. All participants are encouraged to come in their best fall attire or Halloween costumes. City Clerk Beverly Conrad says the city began this event last year to give residents a safe way to trick or treat during the pandemic and she explains how this event has benefited the city, “I think it’s just a sense of community pride and that we are supporting our businesses, and this gives our businesses a chance to support or communicate with those that support them. It also just brings awareness of what we have available in the community. And I think it’s just fun for the kids to get out and do a safe, family-oriented event and just have a good time seeing each other. If it’s outside it’s even better because COVID is still kind of underlying this year as well.”

Conrad adds the Wayland Fire Department will also have their trucks on Main Street to promote National Fire Prevention Week. Twenty-five to 30 businesses are participating, and there is still time to sign up. Families will start at the west end of Main Street and they will be given a bag to carry their treats. The event lasts until 6:30 p.m.
