The Riverside City Council approved the submission of a grant application and matching funds during their regular meeting Monday.
The application is to the Iowa Living Roadways Community Visioning program with a required local match of $2,000. If selected for the program, the city will receive interns in landscaping architecture, and engineering from Iowa State University to help review the city’s needs for transportation-related improvements. A steering committee is formed with the engineers to plan and overlook meetings and workshops to form preliminary drawings for possible improvements. If approved, the engineers will assist in looking for different options and avenues to take and help initiate the first phase of development. City Administrator Christine Yancey says the city applied for the program back in 2009 and the council felt it was time to apply again, as the city has been developing to the north.
